Too busy for God?

I’m not here to make you feel guilty but I am here to be accountable. We need to be honest sometimes we are way too busy, most times we are focused on the things that don’t really matter. It’s painful being reflective but it’s necessary for us to go realise that we need to make changes , to be less busy.

We would like to think we are Mary’s but we too have conformed to be Martha’s , at times I’m unsure about how to break the habit of finding prayer and Bible study to be a task, a task not a treat. But it’s not that I don’t enjoy being in worship , it’s more so that I’m constantly battling prioritising it. We say God first but when we look back on our days and weeks we realise that God has been in the background often. I am repentant and apologetic, guilty of taking God for granted.

But what can we do? Go back to my first paragraph- we need to be accountable. I’ll be honest sometimes I find sermons to be tough to watch because of how long they are and because I’m tired from sleeping late the night before. Should the pastor try to make his sermons more digestible for me by giving me 5 minute breaks every 15 mins ? Of course not, this is a matter of prayer and self control.

A good friend of mine gave me a whole new perspective when I spoke about my busyness, she told me that in terms of busyness it’s not really about how much you’ve got on but how you prioritise.

Prioritising is not easy , especially when time escapes us . I ought to do this and I ought to do that. I’m sure we’ve all had guilt and the doom of upcoming deadlines hold us back but only takes a plan and a very simple one to change things.

Start by giving yourself ten minutes of prayer and Bible reading daily and see where you go. You don’t have to stick to the goal – sometimes I plan to worship for 15 minutes and it turns into 45 mins.

It’s so important to make time and find time for God because how can we proclaim to be Christians who are lead by God when we don’t spend enough time with Him.

Start today by seeking Him first.

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
